Mission Impossible (nearly)

So curiosity killed the cat and brought you back here to find out about the suitcase that was on the Gold Coast.

Team VVV lead by Special Agent Eastes made their way down to the Gold Coast to uncover the case and unlock its secrets. First stop Sanctuary Cove where we found our fist clue. We met our contact Agent Travis who advised us to be a quick as we could.

We were given instuctions to make our way via jet boat to Marina Mirage......JET BOAT woooo....it wasnt really that much fun (yes it was). Reaching some amazing speeds and managing to remain kind of dry we arrived at our next destination.
We scrambled to our next meeting point with Agent Travis who lead us through a challenge to earn the next clue.

The challenge was made easier by the intellectual input from Agents Hedge and Callagan (they then took it easy for the rest of the day as they were exhausted). We were then given instructions to ride a push bike to the next destination.

This is were things got a little tricky and the mission was nearly aborted by Agent Travis.
Lets just say we overshot the next destination by about an hour and a couple of Kilometers. Woops!!

After being found we were given another clue to head out on the water by kayak to a near by island where we would have a time period to work out non verbal communication over distance. This is quite difficult without an iphone but our fearless leader Agent Eastes put his superior understanding of communication to work and the message was easily passed on.

From here we were given the final destination and $20.00 and told to make our way back to this location using the $20.00 and firmly told DO NOT GET LOST.

We made our way to the final Check point where the briefcase was within reach. Agent Ranga aka T Cup cracked the whip and got us through the last challenge. All we had to do now was sit back and let the IT Development(NERDS) work out the combination of the briefcase so that we could liberate the goodies inside. Clues were given out along the course that would lead to the code being cracked. I sat right back at this stage as my sorry input would not help.

With a flick of the wrist Agent Callagan cracked the case and the goodies were ours.

We were successful and little sunburnt and a bit wet and we had a great day.

What will our next challenge be........?

What the Truck!!!!

Honey where did you park the truck?????
Oh in the tree...Handy!

I personally would like to see the Traffic Officer put a ticket on this one.

Top Ways NOT to Park your Car #4

Ok on the international scale of whoopsie this rates a high 7. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when an explanation was offered.

Your mission should you choose to accept it..........

Located on the Gold Coast is a briefcase that has been placed in a secret location. The brief case contains some valuable information that only the VroomVroomVroom team can recover.....curious?

Park Life

Ok so its a little late......

Our latest Photo Shoot took place in our local Park. We try and visit the park at least once a week in the afternoon as a team to get some fresh air and sun (searching for the best car hire deals can be very hard work).

Here you see the team after a dazzling cricket match where the classic catches were only over shadowed by the skilled batting and bowling of the Customer Service Team. Lauren took 3 magnificent flying catches while Vijay was sent into the ditch after a ball that was smashed from the crease.

Top Ways Not to Park your Car #5

Over the next 5 weeks we will look into the top 5 ways NOT to park a car.
By Lauren & Rachel

NUMBER 5

Garage Fail.

Rachel: This seriously yellow vehicle....and seriously too small for its garage FAIL

Lauren: Nice car. Lucky everyone will be able to see it since it doesn't fit in the garage

Fun things to do while driving.....or while stuck in traffic

Don’t you hate peak hour and getting stuck in traffic….here are some amusing suggestions to fill in the time and entertain/freak out those around you…

Roll down your windows and blast talk radio. Attempt to head bang
At stop lights, eye the person in the next car suspiciously. With a look of fear, lock your doors.
Two words: Chicken suit.
Write the words “Help me” on your back window in red paint. The more it looks like blood, the better.
Have conversations, looking periodically at the passenger seat, when driving alone.
Laugh a lot. A whole lot.
Stop at the green lights.
Go at the red ones.
Occasionally wave a stuffed animal/troll doll/Barbie out your window or sunroof. Feel free to make it dance.
Eat food that requires silverware.
Pass cars, then drive very slowly.
Sing without having the radio on.
Wave at people often. If they wave back, offer an angry look and an obscene gesture.
Let pedestrians know who’s boss.
Look behind you frequently, with a very paranoid look.
Restart your car at every stop light.
Hang numerous car-fresheners in the rear-view mirror. Talk to them, stroking them lovingly.
Lob burning things in the windows of smokers who throw their butts out the window.
Paint your car with occult symbols.
Stop and collect road kill.
Stop and pray for road kill.
Get in the fast lane and gradually...slow...down... to a stop. Then get out and watch the cars.

VroomVroomVroom Footy Fever

As the final whistle blows on the 2009 Football season the VroomVroomVroom office has been gripped by Footy Fever. Whether from the past AFL Grand Final or the upcoming NRL Grand Final on Sunday the team is very excited.
Something that the team is even more excited about was knocking 8 seconds of last weeks Photo Shoot. Very Impressive. Watch this space for next weeks extra special team photo shoot.

VroomVroomVroom Shenanigans

Check out your VroomVroomVroom team. Friday afternoons can be a bit silly in the office after a week of working hard. Over the last few weeks the team has played Guitar Hero World Tour ( I am not a drummer ), set up an elaborate practical joke that didn’t work and have become experts on how to microwave pop corn.

Here is the team testing out David’s new toy last Friday. Proudly displaying our VroomVroomVroom spirit. Go Team!!

Staff Magazine Edition 3

You are reading Vroomvastic Staff Magazine. Do not read this if you do not work at VroomVroomVroom!!!!

I had started writing a boring staff magazine introduction when a very happy customer email caught my eye. She rented a car in some weird city with a random one-way fee that we helped her avoid. This put me in such a good mood, that I scrapped the boring introduction and busted out with a lyrical intro instead. It's titled "Edition Three"

EDITION THREE
You are the one,
who gets the rentals done.
Who's the new two?
Lauren & Claire, I welcome you.
Swing on to the three,
this is the place to be.
What this yo readin?
It's Vroomvastic, Edition Three.

Okay, so I'm not a hardcore gansta rapper alright? I just wanted Lauren and Claire, the funky new Vroomsters to feel welcome and to introduce edition 3 of the Vroomvastic staff magazine.

Ditch email software, use Gmail
If you're in a position to change email programs. (like a new PC/laptop or a re-install of windows, or you're sick of outlook/thunderbird) Then throw them in the river. Use google mail. It has all the features of an email program and more.
Here's some tips for using Google Mail FULLTIME.
  • Install Google Gears. This allows you to open all emails even with no internet connection. (previously the biggest reason not to use web-based email)
  • Go to "Accounts" and type in passwords for ALL of your other email accounts. This way, there's only one account to check.
  • You can import existing mail from outlook and thunderbird

Creating Passionate Customers
Everytime you exceed a customers expectation, you are making VroomVroomVroom a lot of money. This means we can give out more staff bonuses and buy cool stuff for the office! So how do you exceed customer expectations? Well, you're a smart person. We wouldn't have hired you if you weren't. You'll need to be able to think of ways to exceed customer expectations on the spot. Some examples might be:
  • randomly sending a car rental customer a gift in the mail without warning
  • meeting them at the airport and lending them your babyseat that you don't use anymore
  • compensating them when the car rental companies don't represent themselves as well as they should
  • program some code to tweet the customer with the cheapest price of the car rental search they just did
  • ask if they have anything interesting planned for the weekend. When they answer, don't change the subject. Continue the conversation.
  • ask them what their favourite thing to do in their city is. Then ask them if you can quote them and their answer to add to our website. Think of some more.
The secret to creating passionate customers is to under promise and over deliver. Imagine a movie that you thought would just be okay, but you absolutely loved it because it was WAY WAY better than expected. This experience is always more memorable then watching great movie that you expected to be great.

Zelda!
I was very pleased to see that nearly staff noticed the secret ZELDA password. Peter Thornton didn't reply. I just phoned him 2 seconds ago and demanded a full confession. I said "Peter, you will confess. You didn't read the newsletter did you? You need to confess and take the punishment like a man." He claims he didn't receive the newsletter. He has been pardoned. Peter, if you aren't reading this and don't respond to me with the codeword "BEANSTALK" then there will be gross public humiliation. It will be filmed and emailed to the management of Avis, Hertz, Thrifty, Budget, Europcar, Dollar, Thrifty, Enterprise, Alamo, Sixt, Advantage. Your reputation will be destroyed. Other Vroomsters do not need to respond with BEANSTALK.

Vroomsterical!
There's a few entries this month for Vroomsterical, the crazy happenings each week.
1. Practical Jokers are striking the Brisbane office
2. David bought a Video camera in USA and asked Richard to test it before forwarding it on to Brisbane. Here is a video of Richard and his Camera Confusion
3. Theresa has sent in a fun photo of the crew all dressed to kill.

Thats it for this month.

Keep on smiling,
Richard.

STOP THE PRESS!!!!! A design contest we're running for a new website called RoadTripMania has started. It's only several hours into the 7day contest and already we have 72 entries!!! http://c.99d.me/28055
If you use facebook or twitter, then post about it so your designer friends can compete for the cash too.

Practical Jokers

Have you ever worked in an office with a practical joker??

Over the last month a certain energy has moved into the VroomVroomVroom office. There has been an increase in the amount of shredded paper in bags and desks, whispers and giggles. We have a practical joker. She will remained unnamed in this document for I fear reprisals.

Our joker has a special affinity with the paper shredder and usually leaves a trail of destruction behind.Andrew and David had a meeting one day only to come back to their bags and jackets stuffed with shredded paper.David left the office one Friday lunch to come back to his office chair now wrapped from top to bottom with cling wrap. A couple of weeks later Andrew and David were due to meet again. Our prankster and her new apprentice discussed filling the cars with Shredded paper or relocating one or both vehicles to the big shopping center down the street. So with one car relocated to a different end of the car park and the other with shredded paper stuffed in as many storage places as possible She and her apprentice sat back to wait.
Soon after the discovery of the latest prank, it was announced that "it is now on" by Andrew. As yet no reprisal strikes have been made against the prankster.Watch this space.......

Results Bridge to Brisbane

Well as promised here is the post Bridge to Brisbane blog. My fingers are one of the only parts that don’t actually hurt.
Well the day began early with the team meeting at the VroomVroomVroom offices from there we made the trek to the starting line with the other 45,000 people who had entered the race. Standing at the base of the Gateway Bridge it was amazing to watch the front runners pound their way up the first hill followed by the rest of the pack. David Andrew and Zhen decided that the run was the way to go while Jess Vijay and I chose the walk. So with the guys off and racing, us walkers had to wait until most of the runners had departed before it was our turn and then we were off. As we walked we saw the Bananas in Pyjamas and a runner in a gorilla suit and also the first blow up kids pool to finish the race. The runner in the gorilla suit was amazing considering the heat of the day. I just hope he or she finished.
After 1hour and 45mins (approx, still waiting for official results) Vijay and I finished the race the last of the Vroom team to do so. Pleased, flushed and feeling a little sore the team then met up at Belle Epoch for a recovery breakfast.
Congratulations team we did really well.

Bridge to Brisbane Week

Well in just 6 days the Bridge to Brisbane will be all over for another year. In a previous blog it was revealed that the VroomVroomVroom team would be competing but what I failed to add was that VroomVroomVroom would donate $100.00 per staff member who participate to a charity of our choice.

So in the final week those of the VroomVroomVroom team who are taking this seriously are starting to wind down the training ready for the big race. Those of us who are really just getting up to enjoy a morning stroll are now excited at the recent warm weather that has been bathing Brisbane in an early summer. This above average weather means that we wont have to get out off bed into the cold dark Brisbane morning.

I will post results and any funny stories next week.

Bridge to Brisbane

Members of the VroomVroomVroom team will this year be competing in the "Bridge to Brisbane" Fun Run. David will be leading the VroomVroomVroom pack competing in the 10km run while Zhen, Andrew, Vijay and I will be taking a leisurely 10km stroll in the walking event.

David has dedicated August to getting himself ready for the race by improving his diet and running every day. He is even displaying amazing self control by staying away from the cookie jar during working hours.

The race has been held for over a decade, seeing millions raised to help the Brisbane community. This years race will benefit the Heart Foundation. The race is on Sunday 30th August 2009.

The VroomVroomVroom Team hits Boston

Representatives from VroomVroomVroom from all over the world recently met in Boston MA in the States for a retreat and in some cases to meet for the first time face to face.

The retreat was part team building part business direction for the next 12 months. A clear direction was achieved for the entire company as "the SMARTER way to rent a car" globally while forming strong and positive working relationships between all representatives.

The VVV management team is hoping to conduct such retreats annually so that the team can get together, create and grow.

Im putting my hand up now for the next one :)
